Preparing Your Home For Hurricane Season
We’re only a few weeks away from Florida’s annual hurricane season which runs from June to November. Below are some helpful tips to prepare your home for storms before they’re here.
1. Make sure you have complete coverage for all openings including doors and windows. Whether its impact glass, metal panels, or hurricane fabrics. Go through each opening to ensure you have the necessary pieces to secure your storm protection including wingnuts, power drills, and drill bits.
2. Trim back trees that are in contact with the home or are nearby and could become a threat to the house.
3. If you have outdoor furniture, decide to have it moved to either the garage or indoors.
4. Stock up on supplies in advance: Water, batteries, non-perishables, flashlights, medication, toiletries, and have some cash on hand.
5. Be prepared for power outages. If you plan to use a gas generator, use it responsibly and don’t run indoors, the fumes can be deadly.
6. Have an evacuation plan for a worst-case scenario.
